My story
I was born in the summer of 1967 in Montreal, Canada. At the age of 4, my father Richard, mother Linda, sister Tammy and I loaded into the first U-Haul we could find and headed west to Vancouver. I have unique memories of seeing beautiful native art on school field trips and stand, in awe and wonderment, at the base of giant totems and ask myself if I could ever create something this great to be remembered and appreciated for centuries. I was awestruck at the talent of my father’s pen and ink ability and my Uncle Frank selling his beautiful oil paintings on the grassy entrance to Stanley Park in the early 70’s.
At aged 15, we moved to the picturesque community of Nakusp B.C. where I was introduced to drama in school. My interest into many aspects of the arts erupted in the early nineties when I relocated to Revelstoke B.C. It began with involvement into film acting, martial arts(where I eventually earned my 2nd degree black belt), voice overs and screenwriting. Then, opportunity knocked when an artist neighbor carving soapstone tossed excess stone down the bank. I was fascinated by the softness and color of the stone. The rest is history.
Reality check! The instability of trying to make it as an actor is challenging. After several labor jobs in the forest industry, I was hired by CP Rail in 1991 and made it through the ranks to Locomotive Engineer in 1998. I was blessed to run trains through the mountain landscape to Field B.C., where I would experience the beauty of our land and spectacular Canadian wildlife in it’s natural habitat. This led to incorporating nature into my artwork.
As far as working in film and television, I enjoy making gifts for cast and crew on many productions to this day.
Donations of my art to many charity like the Kamloops Wildlife Park, Nature Canada etc…, are fullfilling and will always be considered.
In April of 2023, I retired from C.P. Rail. I now focus on creating art full time and attend shows, competitions and markets until the end of my days.
